Iolani Palace is the only royal palace in the United States and features the unique architecture called American Florentine. The palace was the home of Hawaii's last two monarchs, King David Kalakaua and Queen Lili'uokalani
Hawaii State Capital was built in the style of Hawaiian International architecture and features natural elements found across the islands.
The VENUS building can be found on Waialae blvd close to the Garlic restaurant.
The Moana Surfrider is the oldest hotel in Waikiki and captures the essence of the golden days of Waikiki.

The University of Hawaii Medical School is found in Kakaako and is known as the John A. Burns School of Medicine.

Hawaii isn't really known for its architecture and I'm no expert, but I know what catches my eye.

hensley - good photos, i like the house (?) with the veranda - I really like porches on homes. Also the atrium of the state capital. unfortunately building projects take upward of 7 years from conception to completetion this is one of the reasons of the build - overbuild cycles. great post.

The Design Center is beautiful. And I love that veranda/porch. I just sit in one of those chairs and rock all day.

Loved the photos, I feel as if i have just taken a real life tour of the island, getting to see all the loveliest of buildings that it has to offer. I have to "ditto" what everyone else said, I am ready to pack my bags and come on over there for a little vacation in the warmth and the sun! It looks wonderful there. Debby

I also live in Hawaii. There isn't much to choose from but you did a wonderful job! I had to cheat this week and use old photos from San Francisco! In all of Oahu, I love the Byoda Temple!
I liked the Royal Hawaiian, in contrast to the actual palace!

GingerV - The verranda is a ctually part of the Moana Surfrider hotel - the oldest hotel in Waikiki. I like the classic look of the hotel also.

Patty - The Royal Hawaiian Hotel recently completed a million-dollar renovation and yes, is right on the beach.
Debby - Once again, come on over! I heard there are some great deals to Hawaii!
Gigi - Yeah, I'm not exaggerating that Halekulani is the best hotel in Waikiki. Some have rated Halekulani as one of the best in the world!
Kelly - You're right, I didn't get to take a variety of photos as I wanted. I agree, Byodo temple is a beautiful place!
J9 - Yeah, if I were Hawaiian royalty I would choose the Royal Hawaiian Hotel also!
I think those verandas, in the south, are referred to a the front porch or the back porch. It sounds so much more refined and relaxing to be called a verandam though. On a porch you have a cup of coffee. On a veranda you sip cappuccino. On a porch you talk about the hot weather and the news. On a veranda you talk about global warming and international affairs. Well, I think I'll go sit under the shade tree. My house doesn't have one of those verandas. I guess I'm gonna have to get me one.

Missy - Great pics of Misawa Train Park. Hawaii used to have trains that hauled sugar cane to the sugar mill. Now, the only trains left haul tourists.
