Metal

Friday Photo Shootout: Metal
Topic by Audrey in Canada

I decided to park my car at the Hawaii Prince Hotel and found a parking meter that still had time in it (Sweet!). I left my truck there and took my bike (and my camera) and rode around Waikiki taking photos and looking like a tourist. I was supposed to go running with a friend in Waikiki but ended up taking these photos instead. Enjoy!

Japanese light tank - US Army Museum, Waikiki

American M-1 tank

Howitzer Cannon

Finding Nemo?

Honolulu Advertiser Newsbox - Waikiki

Barbed Wire

Radio Flyer

I came back to my truck and noticed I still had 1:45 left. The meter hadn't moved at all since I came. Free parking in Waikiki? What is this world coming to?

M is for....

Friday Photo Shootout: Letter M
Topic by; "Mama" Sarah Lulu in Australia

(Mama) Sarah Lulu from down under brings us today's subject in honor of her grandaughter "Matilda". So without further ado,

M is for...

Maui has become my new favorite Hawaiian Island. Not as crowded as Oahu yet not as country as Kauai - "Maui No ka Oi". Pictured above is the road to Haleakala when I brought my truck over on the Superferry.

Matsumoto's Shave Ice - A must-stop place on Oahu's North Shore

Manoa Valley is just minutes from Honolulu yet has the climate and weather of a tropical rainforest. The main campus of The University of Hawaii is also there.

Magic Island has a great view of Diamond Head and is right across the street from Ala Moana Center. In Hawaii, North Shore surf is relatively small in the summertime. However, surf on the South Shore has been as big as 8-10 ft.

Moanalua Gardens is a favorite place for Hawaii families to have a picnic. Pictured above is the famous Hitachi-tree.

Honolulu Farmers Market

Friday Photo Shootout: Random
Topic by Robyn in Alaska

This week's RANDOM topic comes to us from the 49th state. Being from the 50th state, I decided to take some random photos of my own at the inaugural Honolulu Farmers Market.

Hawaiian blessing complete with ti-leaf cutting ceremony.

Right before the traditional Hawaiian blessing heaven poured out a blessing of its own - Rain!

The Mayor of Honolulu, Mufi Hanneman decided to stop by.

My Chinese friend's popo (grandmother) has the secret to long life: oatmeal, fresh papaya and exercise everyday!

A check presented to the city to fund the Farmers Market

Though the state is facing a budget shortfall, I'm really glad that the City and State has partnered with local businesses to fund the Honolulu Farmers Market.

Water

Yeah, I know I kinda cheated choosing WATER as my subject when Hawaii is surrounded by the Pacifc Ocean. As I was taking photos earlier this week it started raining, which hasn't happened in a few weeks. Great for our water supply and crops, not so great for the tourists in Waikiki!

Snorkeling in front of Ala Moana Beach Park

Even though I've lived in Hawaii for my entire life I need to be honest, I'm not be best swimmer. Yet even that won't stop me from getting into the water!

Irrigation ditch - Waialua

Living on an island, water is truly a precious resource. At times when rainfall is scarce we will hear "Uncle Jerry" on the radio preaching to us to conserve water - sponsored by the Board of Water Supply.

Every year, it seems to get hotter and hotter in Hawaii. Getting into the water is one way we like to relax and cool off.

Every time I go to the North Shore I always make it a point to go Lani's (also called Turtle Beach) to get a great photo of the endangered Hawaiian Green Sea Turtle.
