Komo Mai Dr. - Welcome!

Friday Shoot-out - My town's 4 Corners
Topic by GingerV

To be honest, I kinda struggled with this weeks assignment. I was thinking, I could feature Kalakaua Avenue in Waikiki with the beach and countless resorts or even Kamehameha Hwy that literally goes around the island. I decided instead to showcase the main street in my hometown; Komo Mai Dr. I kinda went off subject but that's okay right? I'm glad there are no rules for these assignments!

E Komo Mai means "Welcome" in Hawaiian.

Last turn to Pacific Palisades

Komo Mai Dr. is the only road that links Palisades residents to the outside world. I remember one time that the road was blocked off. Being that I couldn't go home that night, I went to class the next day with my gym clothes on. Yeah, I hope that never happens again.

Why did the chicken cross the road?

Local Wildlife

Trail that leads to Palisades Falls and Plateaus

The end of Komo Mai Dr leads to Manana trail. A great place to hike, at the end you will find a waterfall. If it has been raining lately you will find Palisades Falls. If not, you will find a green stagnant pool.

The end of the line

Love it Hensly.......you're right no rules and I think you've done an outstanding job. I love that shot of Komo Mai Drive and Palisades. Those chickens cracked me up (get it...."cracked" me up...I know, horrible).
Thank you for joining Friday Shoot-Outs. I loved seeing your world.

your right - I thought up this idea and still had problems with how to execute... I do much better when I see something and I write about it - this being given an assignment thing feel to me like work. Which is ofcourse good for me.... next weeks bars/ ect should be fun, cause I will have to have a beer in each place. With this all said, I liked very much how you did this - following the road and the chicken.... here it would have been a dead chicken cause people drive like crazy -
Hugs and kisses from Brasil

Hey! I have a great idea! Let's catch that bird and have some southern fried chicken. I always enjoy a tour of where I've never been. Now I would love to go! Thanks for the great pics. Gordon

Thanks for your comments!. Seems like everyone got a kick out of the chicken! I was just driving down Komo Mai and saw some chicken cruising by the road. I just had to take a picture!

Papa - In Hawaii we have a form of rotisserie chicken we call "Huli-Huli" Chicken. Yeah, I'm starting to get hungry!

I miss Hawaii now!! I've never been to Pacific Palisades during my 4 yr stay in Hawaii, weird huh hahaha. At least now I can go back there and visit the places that I missed through your blog. I miss my favorite, "huli-huli" chicken hmmm yummy! In Kauai there are lots of chicken with their chicks crossing the road and you have to stop so you can let them cross the road hahaha. Thanks for sharing your photos and joining the Friday shootout!

That hiking trail makes me want to jump a plane to Hawaii. It looks so nice. I love the road and the chicken crossing it. Isn't it nice that we all have such diversity in our posts?

I love seeing all the different areas around your town. Everyone knows Hawaii is beautiful, but it is nice to see it from the eys of someone who lives there and knows it. Makes me feel like I am a part of it.

Thanks for joining us again. Hope to see you next week.

Glad I was not sitting next to you in gym class. Thanks for joining us again.

I grew up in Palisades and lived there for 14 years. I remember as a child being petrified of our VW bus running off the edges of those cliffs. That road in and out was always breathtaking but also gave me quite a scare. It was closed for the day back in 1998 when some weirdo took his family hostage over on the other side of the valley by the high school. Thanks for the pictures, makes me miss home so much!!
